The Deadliest Game and K3loid

I'm pretty excited at the moment - I've just finished work on the comic pages for my new Dr Grordbort book (the third one) and it's been a mammoth undertaking.
It's meant I've neglected the blog of course, as I've been head down, illustrating, writing, and generally forging away at what seemed like a small project when I started, but actually took (as any creator of comics and books will attest) a colossal amount of effort.
I can't wait to see it in print, but that'll be months away yet.

In the meantime, two shorts have surfaced that I had a little to do with.

Firstly, a teaser has been released for the Media Design schools amazing, 'The Deadliest Game'.
The full short should be out soonish, and I saw it in Wellington at it's premiere here at the Roxy last week.
It's a stunning achievement and still blows my mind that it was created by students - when I was a student, I made flip-book ninja's decapitate each other in my maths books.
I DIDN'T CREATE VISUAL EFFECTS HEAVY SHORT FILMS!
I have to say that I had next to zero to do with it's creation, but am exceptionally proud to have it represent the DrG world I've spent these last several years developing.

The Deadliest Games Teaser here!

Secondly, but by no means secondly, is K3loid from the amazing guys at Big Lazy Robot in Spain.
Famed for their work on The Gift, these guys have outdone themselves again.
JJ at BLR contacted me what seems like ages ago, to contribute design to the short, and I was intrigued from the start.
It looks absolutely incredible, and in this teaser, features Aaron Becks' work as shown on his blog.

Congrats, man! Both are super cool. I've watched Keloid so many times now it's redonk. That final image of that teaser just makes me want more of the story.

You've hit that stage (well, you've been there) of being an artist that inspires others to create. There's no greater honor, in my opinion.

Congrats again!

Going into my weekly visit to the Fatboss King and..I'm kinda speechless right now.. As Doug said, I watched and rewatched keloid, actually last night I dreamed with it.. it should be a full movie.

You and Aaron Beck are masters and your work is a huge inspiration for me. Thanks and congrats!

Terrible acting in the first video.

The second video looks alright. But robots to me shouldnt move like humans, if anything they should be faster. Superior.

The lowerhalf of the bodies are way to humanistic to be robots just sayin

Thanks guys.
Just to be clear though, these robots are the work of Aaron Beck and BLR.
The work I did is only hinted at, at the end.

Really like the design of those robot's, especially their heads in the KELOID trailer. Reminds me of an old VHS camera from the 80's. Maybe when they have finished storming the building the recording tape pop's out the side of their head.
Awesome work as usual Greg and Aaron!

The beginning Phrase is hopelessly boring.

Why not take the words out of a famous guy. 1 Liner type deal.

Honestly I dont know the style its going here. It has a Marilyn Manson fetish going for it but with robots.
So wtf is going on here?

Robo cop was more impressive than this man...

Why do robots need flashlights Then. makes no sense

Ryan Walsh said...

I dont get it. The first robot can kick down the metal doors, and then the second set of metal doors he needs a door buster thinger.

And then when they bust in the joint its a bunch of sleeping robots.

Should be Busting a Clip. Get some Laser pointers on them bitchs. Environmental aspect is.. Bare. Boring... Universal Soldier 2 did a better job.

I give this video a 2/10.. Halo 1 had better environmental production.

All you guys did was throw a bunch of boards and shit leaning on the wall..

Here I come around the corner with my super soaker fucking these robots up if u catch my drift

Very nice teaser for K3loid.

Very good professional Russian voice over. It was a proper understable Russian, usually its a some weird mumbling noise or Russia with such heavy accent that I could hardly understand it.

Very weird sign on the soldier's armour.
What is says ГАИ-ГИБДД (GAI-GIBDD) its a road police. ГАИ is an old name for ГИБДД. Its virtually the same thing. And its strictly road police, driving cars, nothing else. If they wanted to show police special forces it would have strictly been ОМОН (OMON) (well you can come up with any abbreviation for future soldiers)

ГАИ-ГИБДД is just something braindamaging for any Russian:)
