G-Tuned goodness

Just got a new pick-up for my old G-tuned guitar and it's transformed it!

I've had this gat for maybe 19 years and I bought it to replace one I stupidly smashed into pieces during a Nihil show in Hamilton . I took the pick-up from that poor smashed thing and put it into what was to become my permanently low tuned monster.

Turns out that pick-up was broken (duh) and never worked right.

I also never really knew about intonation and the fact that turning down to G means you should really move the bridge back... so I had that fixed recently too.

All that adds up to me playing more gat than ever and loving it.

Me and Christian P plus Ben Hawker are trying to put together some songs for a new band in this super-low and delicious tuning, so I'll post some of that eventually.

In the meantime, here's a rough sketch I wrote and played the other day:

AGM Monsters

These poor little mutants were designs I did for two of Neill Blomkamp's sneaky short youtube clips.

The second one is based on a napkin sketch that Neill drew, so you can blame him for the giant slimy testebags. He's a strange man with strange whims.

The final sculpts were done by my mate and sculpting maestro, David Meng and produced in silicon, painted and hair-punched at Weta Workshop.

Neill just posted this great pic of the props on instagram:

And you can see the two clips they're from below:

If you think these are weird, then I think the next step,  Marvin is gonna surprise even more...

Taillefer - Les Sentinelles - French WW1 Comic hero

This is Taillefer from the French comic series Les Sentinelles.

While my Dr. Grordbort's Exhibtion was in Nantes a couple years back I met Julien Mokrani who's making a film adaptation of the comic and I did a quick interpretation for him of the main character.

Looks like it could be bloody epic, and anything that features robotic soldiers fighting World War One has my vote.

A write up about the film version here at Le Figaro.

Umami Monster and MECHA-HOP designs, for Garage Project Beer

I love making art for beer - it's the perfect trade!

These are the designs I did for Garage Project for their two new, highly experimental beers, Umami Monster (brewed with sea weed, sea water and bonito flakes) and the beer designed to combat it, MECHA-HOP (brewed with refined hop oil, refined yeast and other industrialised ingredients).

They're both pretty full on beers, and have great high concepts behind them. These guys really go to town with the brewing methodologies and stories behind their beers.

Tim Gibson, creator of Moth City took my designs and turned them into beautiful posters, labels and t-shirts, which you can see here.

I recommend both beers, but you might wanna baton down your taste-buds - they're as mighty as you'd expect.

Globzilla?

Gareth Edward's Godzilla is out now, and I'm proud to say I had a small part helping design him.
This, as you may note, is not Godzilla, nor a concept for him, but I post this idle scribble in the interim as I await approval to show actual concepts I did for the film.

Watching Godzilla made me want to dig out all the giant monster inspired pieces I've done over the years - made me think of doing a print of the Faction cover. Hmmm.... maybe I will...

Godzilla: the Art of Destruction, a spiffy art of book, is out now and features a ton of Christian Pearce's, Andrew Baker's and my own conceptual pieces in glorious paper format ~ Pixelised versions on this blog coming soon!

Ghidoragh - Dirt Dicks video up.

Oh lookee! A new Ghidoragh video has happened.

Brian, our guitarist made this, although me and Christian whined and complained at him throughout the process, so we did contribute.

You can get the EP on Ghidoragh's Bandcamp for free.
